Course Structure

The syllabus for the Digital Empowerment course is divided into four key units

Unit I Digital Inclusion and Digital Empowerment

This unit focuses on the concept of digital inclusion and its importance in empowering individuals and communities. Topics covered include

  • Understanding the needs and challenges of digital inclusion.
  • Exploring the vision of Digital India, including initiatives like DigiLocker, E-Hospitals, e-Pathshala, BHIM, e-Kranti, and e-Health campaigns.
  • Utilizing public utility portals of the Government of India, such as RTI, Health, Finance, Income Tax filing, and Education.

Unit II Communication and Collaboration in Cyberspace

This unit delves into the various modes of communication and collaboration in the digital realm. Topics include

  • Electronic communication methods, such as email, blogs, and social media platforms.
  • Collaborative digital platforms for teamwork and information sharing.
  • Tools and platforms for online learning, including file sharing, messaging, and video conferencing.

Unit III Towards Safe and Secure Cyberspace

Focusing on the importance of cybersecurity, this unit covers

  • Understanding online security and privacy issues.
  • Identifying threats in the digital world, including data breaches and cyberattacks.
  • Exploring technologies like blockchain and their role in enhancing security.
  • Examining security initiatives by the Government of India to promote a safe digital environment.

Unit IV Ethical Issues in the Digital World

This unit addresses the ethical considerations in the digital landscape, covering topics such as

  • Netiquettes and proper online behavior.
  • Ethics in digital communication and cyberspace interactions.
  • Recognizing and addressing ethical dilemmas in the digital world.

Practical Component

The practical component of the course comprises 30 sessions of 2 hours each, totaling 60 hours. This hands-on approach allows students to

  • Engage in interactive demonstrations using appropriate digital tools.
  • Participate in workshops on services initiated under the Digital India program.
  • Spread digital literacy and awareness among vulnerable and marginalized groups, such as street vendors, domestic help, security guards, and senior citizens.
  • Undertake team activities and projects exploring digital services in areas like education, health, planning, farming, security, cybersecurity, financial inclusion, and justice.

Assessment and Evaluation

Assessment in the Digital Empowerment course is based on continuous evaluation through practical assignments, projects, and participation in workshops.
